The ACSB Asian SMEs Conference 2015 invites papers for its conference on the theme of Asian Entrepreneurship: Fostering and Cross-Border Collaboration. This theme is timely in view of the fastest growing economy in Asia, and Asia being the largest continental economy by GDP in the world. The world’s economic centre of gravity is moving swiftly to Asia.

To continue with rapid growth the Asian economies, with a few exceptions, will require harnessing of the full potential of technology, innovation and critically entrepreneurship to continually develop world-class products and services.

Entrepreneurial cross border collaborations, facilitated by the IT revolution and coerced by globalization, amongst the more advance economies like Japan, Singapore and Republic of Korea and the lesser developed economies to generate mutually beneficial business activities are also needed.

SMEs in the region are subject to international competitions from the onset due to an IT enabled global economy, and have to go out to embrace globalization or sit back and be engulfed by it.

To survive and grow in today’s competitive globalised economy; SMEs are required to be innovative. They need to continuously create better services and products, and innovate the organisation to maintain the competitive edge necessary for staying ahead of global competition.

The ACSB Asian SMEs Conference will accordingly focus on how Asian managers should lead their organizations in an era characterized by these unprecedented challenges. More specifically, issues related to the broad theme of the conference include, but are not restricted to, the following:

The Journal of Small Business Innovation (JSBI), a quarterly English journal of KASBS and ACBS, invites manuscripts for the publication in 2015-2016. JSBI has already started to solicit the high quality manuscripts for the publication in the journal since the last ACSB conference in Seoul last year. JSBI has already chosen 2 best research papers for the award of $1,000 each from the papers published in the journal last January. And the selection process will be continuing along 2015 until the scheduled 10 awards will be exhausted.

KASBS is the oldest and largest academic organization of SMEs scholars and practitioners in Korea. For the further details of the KASBS, please visit http://www.kasbs.or.kr. And the ACSB is the representative of the ICSB in the Asian region.

Call for Papers Special Issue — Asian Entrepreneurship: Today and Tomorrow

The Journal of Small Business Innovation (JSBI) invites manuscripts for a special issue on Asian Entrepreneurship: Today and Tomorrow and related issues, scheduled for publication in December 2015.

Asian region is becoming the largest economy in the world in terms of aggregate GDP now  Entrepreneurship in the SMEs in the Asia Pacific region is especially important due to the higher global competition and the rapid technological development focused in Asia. The theme of “Asian Entrepreneurship: Today and Tomorrow” is timely in view of the nature of complexity and speed of change in this region. More specifically, the examples of relevant topics may include, but not limited to:

ACSB Innovate Malaysia Award – Call for Nominations

ACSB Innovate Malaysia Award – Call for Nominations

The ICSB Asia Council for Small Business is excited to announce a new addition to the annual regional conference – the Innovate Awards. These awards aim to recognize and honor some of the most innovative new products, services, and business leaders in regional locations around Asia.

In 2015, the 3rd annual ACSB Asia SME Conference will be held in Miri, Malaysia from October 26-30, 2015 and will focus on the theme ‘Asian Entrepreneurship: Fostering Cross-Border Collaboration’.

To highlight Malaysian successes, ACSB Innovate Malaysia is looking to honor individuals who have recently launched a new ‘game changing’ product, service around two key criteria: value and impact.

VALUE

ValueSuccessful recipients will be asked to demonstrate how their new innovations have created value for their communities – financial or non-financial. Successful innovations will show how their innovation is different and whether it has distinct advantages over any alternatives. They will also show its unique value proposition, relationship between cost and benefits and its economic desirability.

IMACT

ImpactSuccessful recipients and their innovations will have a positive impact for the end users of the product or service. They will be able to showcase the immediate and long-term impact of their innovation on the environment and society as a whole. They will also show the vision for the innovation and how it might inspire future innovations or innovators.

The deadline to submit a nomination is June 1, 2015.

The Innovate Awards Committee will then select between 3-5 individuals to participate in the 2015 ACSB Program. During the conference, a portion of the program will be dedicated toward promoting the finalists – each finalist will receive an exhibitor booth to showcase their work and will also be asked to pitch to conference delegates. Based on their exhibitor space and pitch, the committee will select the final recipient to be awarded the grand prize at the conference.

The grand prize will include a trophy, monetary cash prize and the offer to sit on the Innovate Awards Committee for the following conference.

The Asia Council for Small Business (ACSB) is a regional council of affiliates and chapters of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) in the Asia-Pacific region with a mission to streamline programming for SMEs. Your abstract and paper must be submitted electronically for review.

All abstracts must be submitted for review by 30 June 2015.

Authors with accepted abstracts must submit full paper by 30 September 2015. Only full papers submitted will be considered for Best Paper Awards. Invitation to submit to collaborative journals will be issued only to selected papers.

All submissions are processed through a double-blind review by members of the Program Committee so please do not include any author contact information on your abstract submission. You will be notified via email of the decision regarding acceptance of your abstract when the review process is completed.

One of my roles as the Immediate Past-President is the chairing of the Nominating Committee for the next slate of officers. We have made the election process as transparent as possible; and it follows Article VII; Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) By-Laws.

I ask that all ICSB members please take a moment and VOTE for the individuals who will drive the organization to next level in 2015-2016! The deadline to submit a ballot is May 7, 2015.
