ECSB celebrates its 20th Anniversary

The International Council for Small Business (ICSB) would like to congratulate our Europe-based affiliate, the European Council for Small Business (ECSB) on their 20th anniversary of affiliation. The network of ECSB covers nearly all of Europe geographically, resulting in membership from approximately 500 experts in over 30 countries. ECSB is also the co-organizer of the annual RENT Conference, which is Europe's premier research conference in the field of entrepreneurship. Beginning on Thursday November 20, ECSB will co-host the RENT XXII Conference in Covilhã, Portugal at the University of Beira Interior.

ECSB organizes high-quality conferences for its members, such as the RENT conference in co-operation with EIASM, in order to facilitate and enhance the exchange of knowledge within the ECSB membership. Following twenty one successful Workshops (in Brussels 1987, Vienna 1988, Cologne 1989, Durham 1990, Vaxjo 1991, Barcelona 1992, Budapest 1993, Tampere 1994, Piacenza 1995, Brussels 1996, Mannheim 1997, Lyon 1998, London 1999, Prague 2000, Turku 2001, Barcelona 2002, Lodz 2003, Copenhagen 2004, Naples 2005, Brussels, 2006 and Cardiff, 2007), RENT XXII will continue in line with tradition. RENT XXII is structured to stimulate dialogue and reflections about the importance of Entrepreneurship as an engine for Regional Development. During the past decade, ECSB has observed research in entrepreneurship and small business grow and prosper in all European countries with particularly remarkable development in the research frameworks and methodologies respectively.

Through its affiliation to the International Council for Small Business since 1989, ECSB has been able to connect with the global academic and professional small business community. Since 1989, ECSB has made great strides in the European geographic region in terms of promoting small business and entrepreneurship and providing invaluable knowledge to existing and future entrepreneurs. The organization has made progress in the field of entrepreneurship by not only triggering the exchange of ideas and new analyses among the entrepreneurial community, but with the inclusion of policy makers and the academic community. The growing emphasis on the value of entrepreneurship in policy agendas and business communities all over Europe is representative of the organization's impact and visibility. The effort of ECSB over the past two decades has resulted in a stimulating dialogue among the private and public entities and within the academic community.

Similar to the ICSB, ECSB is a non-profit organization whose main objective is to advance the understanding of entrepreneurship and to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in Europe. ECSB facilitates the creation and distribution of new knowledge through research, education and the open exchange of ideas between professions and across national and cultural boarders.
