Business School PhD Studentship – Leadership
The Business
School has a vibrant
postgraduate research community where there are currently over 140 students
enrolled on its Doctoral programmes. It has excellent research ratings with 94
per cent ofits research classified as being of international quality (RAE
2008). As part of its ongoing development of postgraduate research, the Business School is offering up to 7 fully-funded
studentships for October 2010 start. Priority will be given to applicants with
research proposals that align withBusiness
School priorities as well as the University of Exeter Research Beacons and Key
Themes(http://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/excellence/keythemes/).
We are keen to attract students with strong experience of
independent research and knowledge of research methods, techniques and
approaches at Master's level. As with all Doctoral students in the Business School, further training opportunities
are available based on training needs assessment at the start of your studies.
Applications will be welcome from
across the field of leadership studies and in particular, from students seeking to
research issues of leadership and sustainability (especially sense-making and
identity-related approaches); leading complex organizations, partnerships and
alliances; leadership development and organizational performance; well-being
(of leaders, and the contribution of leadership to well-being); and
spirituality as a factor in leadership in contemporary organizations and
communities.

Criteria
You should have an appropriate first degree in any
social science discipline of class 2:1 or above and ideally, also a Master’s
degree in a subject of relevance to the research proposal. We will also give
consideration to relevant experience where appropriate.
Preference will be given to applicants who have received ESRC
accredited training atMaster’s level. If English is not your first
language, a language test certificate is required with the following minimum
requirements for this studentship: IELTS 7.0. Personal qualities should also
include the ability to work independently and high degree of motivation
necessary to complete a PhD in three years.
Value
All fees paid for three years plus an annual Research
Council-equivalent maintenance grant for three years. In 2009/10 this was
£13,290 per year; the 20010/11 grant will be announced later in the year.
