ICSB 2005 World Conference

USASBE served as host of the 50th World Conference of the International Council for Small Business in June 2005 in Washington, DC. The theme for the conference was ‘Golden Opportunities for Entrepreneurship.’  The opening reception was held in the main lobby of the World Bank and the gala celebration was at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in the spectacular atrium.

Over 200 papers and two dozen workshops were presented on a variety of topics including:

>> Consulting, training and advising SME’s
>> Ethics in entrepreneurship
>> Youth entrepreneurship
>> Workshops and paper sessions for educators in entrepreneurship
>> Family business
>> Technology, venture capital, angel investments, and supporting high-growth entrepreneurship
>> Women in entrepreneurship
>> Franchising
>> Entrepreneurship as economic development (including micro credit, community and social entrepreneurship)

There were two Best Papers awards given at the conference

1. The JSBM Editors choice Best Paper was awarded to;

Justin G. Longenecker, Carlos W. Moore, J. William Petty, Leslie E. Palich, and Joseph A. McKinneyEthical Attitudes in Small Businesses and Large Corporations: Theory and Empirical Findings from a Tracking Study Spanning Three Decades

2. The US National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) Best paper in Women’s Entrepreneurship was awarded to;

E. A. Dionco-Adetayo, J.T. Makinde and J. O. AdetayoEvaluation of Policy Implementation in Women Entrepreneurship Development


The conference featured two pre-conference events;

  • Public Policy Pre-Conference sponsored by The Small Business Administration, Office of Advocacy and the National Federation of Independent Businesses
  • Writing and Teaching with Cases Pre-Conference held by Harvard University
